Brain Awareness Week – creative art competition

Every year as part of our Brain Awareness Week activities, we hold an art competition for primary school students around Australia. The competition encourages students to think about the brain and its functions, and also helps teachers introduce brain science to their students.

‘My brain helps me to…’ creative art competition

In 2021, our art competition encouraged primary school students to create an artwork inspired by our theme, ‘My brain helps me to…’ The competition closed on 16 April 2021.

We had over 1100 entries in the 2021 creative art competition. These artworks were shortlisted and then voted on by brain researchers from the ARC Centre of Excellence for Integrative Brain Function located all around Australia.

‘Why I love my brain’ creative art competition

In 2020, our art competition encouraged primary school students to show us why their brains are amazing. The competition closed on 19 June 2020.

Despite the challenges presented by COVID-19 and schools teaching remotely during 2020, we still had over 650 entries in our creative art competition. It was very difficult to shortlist the artworks that were then voted on by the many brain researchers from the ARC Centre of Excellence for Integrative Brain Function.

Amazing brains creative art competition

Our annual creative art competition encourages primary school students from around Australia to think about the brain and its functions, and also helps teachers to introduce brain science to their students.

In 2019, our art competition encouraged primary school students to show us why their brains are amazing. The competition closed on 3 May 2019.

With over 1200 entries from 76 schools, it was very difficult to shortlist the artworks that were then voted on by 100 brain researchers from the ARC Centre of Excellence for Integrative Brain Function.

What makes ‘sense’ in the brain?

We want to inspire primary school children to think about how marvellous the human brain is so each year we hold an art competition during Brain Awareness Week (March). In 2018, school children from around Australia were invited to create an artwork or piece of writing that was inspired by senses.
